ALTERNATIVE BUSINESS STRUCTURES, PROFIT-DRIVEN NON-LAWYER OWNERSHIP AND ENTITY REGULATION

The ACTLA Board of Directors has serious concerns regarding Alternative Business Structures (ABS), Non-Lawyer Ownership of law practices (NLO) and other changes being brought forward by the Law Society of Alberta (LSA) including reducing the number of benchers representing its growing membership as well as the lack of full consultation with the profession on these issues.  ACTLA has met with LSA representatives to discuss these concerns and additional written correspondence further conveying concerns has been sent to all current Benchers.

ACTLA has created a brochure with What You Need to Know here.  While the brochure was created before the 2017 Bencher Election, much of the information is still very current.  ACTLA strongly encourages you to inform yourself on these extremely important issues.
